One app instead of three: why we built PrepCode
To get a tech job you need to write code, practise for interviews and find openings. Most students do that in three separate tools, with nothing connecting them. PrepCode puts all three in one desktop app and shows you how far you’ve come.
The problem with the usual setup
The common route is VS Code for programs, LeetCode for practice and LinkedIn for jobs. Each is good at its own job. The trouble is everything around them.
Setup eats the first week
To run a language in VS Code you install it, add extensions, fix the PATH, then work out why Run does nothing. On a lab PC or a new laptop you do it all again.
Your work is scattered
Programs sit in random folders, practice lives on a website and applications on another. Nobody can easily see what they did this month.
Three tabs, three habits
Every switch between tools is a chance to stop. Practice sessions rarely end because of a hard question; they end because of friction.
What PrepCode is
PrepCode is a desktop code editor made for students. It’s a real app on your computer, not a website, so your programs are saved locally and it works offline. Everything is pre-configured: install it, pick a language and press Run. Five areas sit in one sidebar.
Programs
A full code editor with a console under your code. Run Python, Java, C, C++ and Go.
Database
Write and run MySQL. Each statement shows its own result, its line and how long it took.
Practice
Job-prep questions grouped by category, so you work through one topic at a time.
Jobs
Search openings, including Indian jobs grouped by engineering branch.
Sync
Sign in with GitHub and your programs follow you to any computer.
Progress, built in
Files grouped by Today, Yesterday and each earlier date, plus a badge for programs waiting to sync.
How it works
Install
Get the installer for Windows, macOS or Linux from the download page. Nothing else to install.
Start
Continue with GitHub to keep your work synced, or continue as a guest with no account.
Run
Create a file, write your program and press Run. Output appears right under your code.
Track
See your files by day and how many programs are waiting to be saved.
PrepCode vs VS Code + LeetCode + LinkedIn
Here is how PrepCode stacks up against the usual combination of an editor, a practice site and a job site. Everything you need is in one app, ready to run.
| What you need | PrepCode | VS Code + LeetCode + LinkedIn |
|---|---|---|
| Run six languages with no setup | Yes Ready on install | No Install and configure each |
| Everything in one app | Yes One sidebar | No Three tools, three tabs |
| See your progress in one place | Yes Built in | No Separate on each tool |
| MySQL without a separate client | Yes Own area, result per statement | ~Partly Needs a server and an extension |
| Works offline | Yes Desktop app | ~Partly VS Code does; the others don’t |
| Free for students | Yes Free | ~Partly VS Code is free; premium tools are paid |
| Best for | Starting out, daily practice, placements | Juggling three separate tools |
Yes ~ Partly No
Where PrepCode is better
The first five minutes
Install, choose a language, press Run. No PATH, no extensions, no missing compiler. For a student on a lab PC, that is the difference between practising today and next week.
One place for everything
Code, SQL, practice questions, jobs and sync share one sidebar, so there’s nothing to switch between and nothing to lose.
Progress you can see
Your files are grouped by day and a badge counts what’s waiting to sync. The other tools each show only their own slice.
Yours, even offline
Programs save on your computer as you type. Lose the connection and you can keep working.

What’s next
More languages are coming, including .NET, Rust and PHP. For colleges, we’re working on student management and performance reports so teachers can see how their students are doing. The pricing page has the plan.
